What's your take on diaper bags?
I have been looking and looking and can't find one that I like... Or one that seems reasonably priced. And I am not really sure just how much actually ends up in the bag... Or if many pockets are the way to go, or one big pouch... And what about the changing pad? Is it really that useful? Or should I just use a larger padded blanket that can be washed?
So many questions... But I figure it will be something I carry for many years, so I should really be happy with it. (I'd rather spend a little more and only get one, than buy several cheaper ones that just fall apart or don't function efficiently.
And what about having them made? Are there people who do that?
Lol... I have been told that every woman finds her "thing" to obsess over... I think diaper bags must be mine...

Re: Diaper Bags?
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 3:49 PMI used a simple one that was messenger style. I loved it. It had pockets for the bottles which is really nice and a space for diapers and wipes. Now I just use a purse because all I carry is a sippy cup and a toy or two. I have diapers in the car as well as wipes and extra clothes and an extra blanket. I used to carry a blanket everywhere when she was smaller and that is a I used for diaper changes, we only had a blowout once. Definitely get one that is well made, mine has fallen apart. One thing i really liked about it though was that it was wipe downable. It was not cloth and I could just take a wet cloth or wipe and voila! it was clean. -

Re: Diaper Bags?
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 3:56 PMI think it's worth the investment. At 15 months I still use mine everyday. We have one made by skiphop that is mama and papa friendly simple black bag. It also clips onto the stroller which is a great feature. You could totally make due with a backpack and a blanket, but the pockets and change pad do come in handy. Happy shopping! -

Re: Diaper Bags?
Tue, February 12, 2008 - 10:47 PMI have gone through a few bags in the past and I must say go messenger. They are easy to get into with out you having to take them off, backpacks must be removed to get into. I can't tell you how many times I have nearly twisted my arm out of socket trying to pull a sippy out of a backpack without putting down a child, fumble fumble, perhaps you get the idea.
Messenger all the way mamma -

Re: Diaper Bags?
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 12:01 PMKeep in mind those discount/miscellaneous type stores (T.J. Maxx, Ross, etc.) - I found a great diaper bag in one of those lovely Asian style prints for only 12 dollars. It converts to either a messenger or a backpack (priceless!) as well as has several pockets inside for bottles/wipes and so forth. Granted, it won't last you forever (mine is still doing well at the 9 month mark), but I love it, love it, love it! -

Re: Diaper Bags?
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 12:24 PMif you are wearing your baby I would recommend a backpack. the messenger style is easier to access, but the weight distribution can be uncomfortable when you are also hauling around a baby. a back pack was always much more comfortable for me. -

Fri, February 15, 2008 - 3:20 PMGood to know. (He has a photo of him going hiking with a front pack and a back pack... Looks like that will be replaced by a diaper bag and a baby bjorn...)

Re: Diaper Bags?
Sun, February 17, 2008 - 5:42 AMif you're considering carrying your baby, and you've gone as far as researching the ERGO or the BECCO, i *highly* recommend the $35. backpack accessory that's available from ERGO ... it's the only baby gear that i would neverever give up willingly.
and if you need something cute and cheap, i saw both the messenger style and a faux leather handbag style on sale at target earlier this week -

Tue, February 19, 2008 - 6:39 PMYES I like that ergo backpack accessory...
I use my ergo daily. so worth it.
I also got a diaper bag backpack that I LOVE and use all the time...
and it was worth every single pricey penny.
