Who's kids watch Zoey 101?

By now I'm sure you've heard the star of the show (yet another of the Spears girls) has gotten her 15 year old self pregnant and is keeping the baby.

Now, I don't LOVE the show, but my son does watch it once in a while and the re-runs have still been playing.

My question is.........When someone as famous as this girl announces in the media she is pregnant and keeping the baby, how do you talk to your children about that? I mean, how do you feel?

It wasn't hard to handle (having a boy) and it was more confusion for him than anything else. He couldn't understand why "a kid" would want to be a mommy. We covered it from there. But I'm just interested in all your thoughts.

from what one of my mom friends with a teenage girl told me recently -- all she had to do was send her daughter to see "juno" (which she wanted to see anyway). she came home saying she didn't want to ever get pregnant because it looked like it sucked! i think that movie resonates so much with teenagers is because it is so honest, and i know that as a teenager i really appreciated being told the truth about pretty much anything and everything.

I think it depends on the individual child. My son, a very immature 9, watches the show. I asked him if he heard that Jamie Lynne Spears was pregnant. He said that he did hear about it. I asked what he thought about it and he said nothing really.

To him, 16 is still quite old in a totally abstract way, so I don't think he quite gets it. Also, I was in my early 20s when I had him and still look quite young (as do many of my friends) so I think that it's not abnormal for my son to think of moms as being younger. He really did not seem to understand what the big deal is but, again, he is a younger 9 and not as sophisticated as some of his peers. I did explain to him that she was only 16, which is quite young to be a mom, but I don't think he really understands how young 16 is since it is still quite a long ways from his age.

If he had asked or wanted to discuss it more than we would have. I am very open and honest with my kids. I'm sure the questions of tween girls and parents will probably have a lot deeper conversations about it than we did.
